Chapter Two is singer Kelly Dickson and guitarist
Werner Kristiansen.
Having worked on several musical projects spanning a variety of musical
forays and genres, they reach this inevitable defining point in their own
musical chapters. Together, they collaborate to write the material for the
grand structure that is Chapter Two. Basing their songs on their love for
all things soulful, funky and pop, Chapter Two’s music is undeniably their
own. Subtle powerful vocals and undeniable guitar abilities are the staple
of Chapter Two’s sound and live, they are ably backed by an illustrious
array of musicians, utilizing the cream of the crop from their own musical
pasts to form a behemoth of sound which is rarely heard today.
“A force 10 hurricane bursting with energy”. - Liane
Carroll
Kelly’s voice has been described as “a subtle power
that creeps up on you” (Jamie Cullum)
After moving to Leeds as a child from her birthplace of Northern Ireland she
soon developed a love and understanding of funk, jazz and gospel. Kelly’s
natural talent saw to her unavoidable rise in her musical region through
performing her much-loved funk and jazz standards, after moving to London
she was flown to New York twice to record two albums with saxophone legend
George Garzone (Vocal Point 2003 and Doodlin’ 2007). Following on from her
success in New York, she was discovered by Steve White (Paul Weller) and was
asked to sing lead vocals with his band, The Players. Kelly went on to tour
Europe with The Players and collaborated in writing and recording on their
acclaimed album,
‘From The Six Corners’.
“Kelly's voice knocked me out the very first time I
heard it, she is one of our countries best and most versatile vocalists, she
has great technique and tone yet can belt them out with the best of them!
Kelly is a great singer and a great musician”. - Steve White
Werner (pronounced Verner) was born and grew up on the eastern coast of
Norway and had a fascination with the guitar from an early age. After a
senior lecturer from London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music heard
Werner play whilst on a trip in Norway he was invited across to London to
attend the Academy, and Werner’s next four years were spent completing a
jazz performance and composition degree. Werner became involved on the
London music scene and quickly found himself becoming a much in demand
session musician, after graduation he decided to stay on in UK, a decision
he has not regretted since.
“Werner is a guitarist of great skill and talent, a
absolute virtuoso on his instrument with a sensitivity and ability to
completely serve the music”. – Daniel Morris
And so, the story continues with Chapter Two’s four track EP ‘Introducing
Chapter Two’. Tracks like ‘Hindsight’ showcase’s Kelly’s powerful voice and
Werner’s arrangements complement her vocal word play perfectly. Reference
points could be thrown their way in the form of The Funk Brothers, Aretha
Franklin or even more contemporary artists like John Mayer and Beverly
Knight. ‘Last Words’ slows things down to a slower build, with just as many
hooks in it’s chorus as anything else Chapter Two do. In fact, it’s another
great example of the diversity in sound they have to offer. Chapter Two are
now preparing to release their debut album to make this ever colder and
duller world seem that much warmer and brighter.
